Conservatory Roof Insulation
Transform your conservatory into a room you'll use all year round. Internal ceiling insulation fitted beneath your existing roof — cooler in summer, warmer in winter, and quieter when it rains. From £1,495 including VAT, installed in a single day.
What Conservatory Roof Insulation Does
Four problems, one system. The SnugCore™ Ceiling System addresses every reason your conservatory is uncomfortable.
Cooler in Summer
Reflective foil layers help reflect radiant heat away from the room.
Warmer in Winter
Multi-layered insulation slows heat loss through the roof.
Quieter When It Rains
The insulation layer absorbs and deadens rain and hail drumming noise.
No More Glare
A solid finished ceiling eliminates harsh direct glare from the sky.
How It Works
A precision-engineered internal ceiling, fitted in four simple steps.

What Is Conservatory Roof Insulation?
Conservatory roof insulation is a fitted internal ceiling system installed beneath your existing glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof. Your existing roof stays in place and continues to provide weather protection — the insulation is fitted underneath, creating a thermal and acoustic barrier.
The SnugCore™ Ceiling System uses high-performance multi-layered foil insulation within a precision timber subframe. A deliberate air gap is maintained above the insulation so the roof cavity can breathe naturally, preventing condensation. The ceiling is then finished with your choice of UPVC panels, plasterboard (ready for decorating), or a fully skimmed plaster finish.
Internal insulation is fitted in a day, costs from £1,495, and doesn't change the external appearance of your conservatory. If you're weighing it up against a full external roof replacement, our warm roof vs internal insulation comparison sets out the differences in detail.
What we do: SnugRoof Thermal installs internal insulated conservatory ceilings. We do not supply or fit external tiled or solid replacement roofs.
Why Conservatories Need Insulation
A traditional conservatory roof is essentially a large, uninsulated pane of glass or polycarbonate. In summer, sunlight pours through the roof and the room can become uncomfortably hot. In winter, heat rises and escapes straight through the roof, leaving the room cold and unused for months at a time.
Internal ceiling insulation addresses both problems. The reflective foil layers help reflect radiant summer heat away from the room, while the insulation layer slows winter heat loss. The solid finished ceiling also removes direct overhead glare and reduces rain noise — two issues that make conservatories unpleasant even when the temperature is bearable.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is conservatory roof insulation?
Conservatory roof insulation is an internal ceiling system fitted beneath your existing glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof. It creates a thermal barrier that reduces heat loss in winter and blocks solar heat gain in summer — without removing or altering the existing roof. The SnugCore™ Ceiling System uses multi-layered foil insulation within a timber subframe, finished with UPVC, plasterboard, or a fully plastered ceiling.
Does conservatory roof insulation actually work?
Yes. Internal ceiling insulation reduces the temperature swings that make conservatories unusable. In summer, the reflective foil layers help reflect radiant heat away rather than letting it pass through the roof. In winter, the insulation slows heat loss through what is typically the largest uninsulated surface in the room. Customers consistently tell us the room becomes far more comfortable to use across the year.
How much does conservatory roof insulation cost?
Conservatory roof insulation with the SnugCore™ Ceiling System starts from £1,495 including VAT for a UPVC finish on a conservatory up to 10m². A fully plastered finish starts from £1,995. Pricing is fixed based on your conservatory size and chosen finish — no hidden extras.
How long does installation take?
Most conservatories are completed in a single day. Larger or unusually shaped conservatories may take slightly longer, but you'll always have a clear timeline confirmed in your fixed price.
Do I need planning permission for conservatory roof insulation?
Because the work is entirely internal and doesn't alter the external appearance of the conservatory, planning permission is not normally required. Building Regulations are separate and can depend on how your conservatory was originally built and whether it remains separated from the main house — we're happy to explain the proposed installation, and property-specific approval questions should be confirmed with your local authority or Building Control body.
Will insulation cause condensation in my conservatory?
No — when installed correctly. The SnugCore™ Ceiling System maintains a deliberate ventilation gap above the insulation, allowing the roof cavity to breathe naturally. This prevents moisture from becoming trapped. Poor installation without air gaps is what causes condensation problems.
Can I insulate a glass or polycarbonate conservatory roof?
Yes. Both glass and polycarbonate roofs can be insulated internally, and the existing roof stays in place above the new ceiling. On polycarbonate roofs, the insulated ceiling also noticeably reduces rain and hail noise.
